Students are expected to come into my classroom quickly and quietly every day. They should immediately go to their assigned seats, pull out the materials they will need for the class period [a pencil or pen (blue or black ink only) and their binder and begin the bellringer if one has been given. Students that do not finish the bellringer in the allotted time because they were late to class or did not get started right away will not receive credit. Bellringers are meant to be short and only take about 5 minutes of class so students need to get started right away.
I will always try to give students about 2 minutes at the end of class to clean up their area and pack their things so they will be ready to leave when the bell rings, but if any students are disruptive during class I may not be able to give everyone this time. Too may disruptions will make me lose track of time or cause me to need those 2 extra minutes. Please be mindful of this and be respectful in my classroom. Also remember: I dismiss you, not the bell. I cannot dismiss you until everyone is seated and quiet. Please do not make your classmates late by standing or talking when the bell rings.
Homework: The state's new social studies curriculum does not have much homework. However, if students do not finish assigned work in class they may be asked to complete it for homework. Homework is always due the next day. If homework is not turned in students will be given a missed assignment slip they will have to fill out and return to me.
Discipline: LSVI has a new policy this year for behavior issues. This policy is in place to be consistent across all classrooms. In my class students will be given a verbal warning when they are doing something inappropriate. After that, in accordance with LSVI's new behavior policy, an infraction form will be filled out for any student that continues to misbehave (this is for minor infractions: minor disrespect, not following directions, being disruptive, ect.) Once a student has their 4th infraction the matter will be referred to the office for a write up.
In the case of a major infraction (major class disruption, bring weapons on campus, drugs, ect.) the matter will immediately be referred to the office.
If a student has a problem in my class I do encourage that they come talk to me after class or write me a note. I am willing to consider request and discuss complaints to try to make things better in the classroom.
